Book lovers have one week to buy books at 50% discount

ISLAMABAD: The Readers Club members of National Book Foundation (NBF) have last week to utilise their current card to buy books at half price expiring on June 30.

The scheme launched to nurture book reading culture is highly famous among book lovers of all age groups and people eagerly wait for opening of new cards drive each year.

An official of NBF, giving details of the scheme said, the Foundation is endeavouring to revive the book-reading culture in the country, especially among the youth, to engage them in a healthy activity.
He said the scheme offers 50 percent discount on prescribed bookstores of NBF whereas 55 percent concession granted on buying books from the NBF books shops.

Readers Club is one of the most public oriented book promotional activity attracting readers to buy books of their choice at half price, he stated.

Besides, promoting reading habit, it encourages the overall book industry, help increasing literacy rate, create reasonable demand for good quality reading material and motivating young generation towards developing reading culture in the society.

The membership offer, the official said, is on first come first service basis in the major cities of the country like Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Wah Cantt, Multan, Peshawar, Abbottabd, DI Khan, Quetta, Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, Jacobabad, Gilgit and Muzafarabad.

The number of registered booksellers is around 95 all over the country, he informed. Regarding launching the scheme this year, he said, last year the scheme was launched in September and this year they would also announce it in the same month or try to start it before that.
