The first Potohar Art and Literature Festival kicked off at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) on Monday.
The four-day festival includes different competitions, includes qirat , naat, posters, painting, poetry, photography, debates, Punjabi takra, singing, documentaries, bait bazi, dress carnival, solo performance, drama, boys sports, musical night and seminars on different issues.
The day began with qirat and naat competitions in the morning, followed by boy’s sports and posters, painting, poetry and photography competitions.
On the occasion, Metro Bus Project Chairman Hanif Abbasi was the chief guest, while Milaad Committee Chairman Ziaulla Shah was the guest of honour.
Hanif Abbasi in his address said that qirat and naat are part of our religion and culture. He said that the life of our holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) is a role model for humanity. “We should forget our differences and unite for a problem-free society, where tolerance should be the key goal,” he said.
He appreciated the efforts of PMAS-AAUR administration for organising such a colourful event and hoped that such types of competitions will be held in the future as well. He said that such healthy and positive activities were essential for curbing the trends of extremism in society, adding that the Punjab government’s top priority is to provide maximum sports activities to the youth, with latest sports facilities to set new trends
On the occasion, he also announced floodlights for the University Sports Ground.
In the qirat competition, Hanzla Mushtaq, a student of faculty of sciences, bagged the first position, whereas M Ishtiaq, a student of education, got second and Usman Cheema of information technology stood third.
In the naat competition, Kashif Hussain of agriculture faculty clinched first, Asad Ghafoor of information technology stood second and Hasina Basharat of faculty of sciences got third positions.
In the poster and painting competition, Nishat Fatima and Ifra Baig got first and second positions, respectively, while Kibeeria of agri engineering got third position.
In the mushaira competition, Zaid Abbasi of agriculture faculty stood first, while Sidra Bibi of faculty of sciences and M Waheed of information technology obtained second and third positions, respectively.
In the photography competition, Imran Ali and Saqib shared the first position, while Zeeshan Ali, Abrar Babry and Sundas remained runners-up.
In the volleyball championship, agriculture faculty team defeated biotechnology team while forestry team defeated basics sciences. The final match will be played today (Tuesday) between agriculture faculty and forestry teams.
