New Delhi: Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit on Thursday said that Urdu language can help in building a special bond between New Delhi and Islamabad, adding that cultural activities like ‘shayari’ can help both sides come closer.

“Urdu can be a good binder since this language is popular in both countries,” Basit said after attending a lecture series.

“In the coming days, we hope to see more such activities wherein Urdu will help both India and Pakistan come closer,” he added.

Meanwhile, noted ghazal singer Ustad Ghulam Ali who was also present on the occasion said that he looks forward to his performance in Varanasi.

“I have heard that the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) will also be attending. I hope everyone enjoys,” he said.

Ghulam Ali would be performing at Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple, Varanasi during an annual music concert, beginning April 8.
